City of Missoula Proclaims “Blackfoot Communications Day” to Celebrate 70 Years of Community Connections  

Missoula, MT –  Blackfoot Communications, a leading Missoula-based technology provider, is honored to announce the City of Missoula’s proclamation of December 12, 2024, as “Blackfoot Communications Day.” This recognition celebrates Blackfoot’s 70 years of connecting people, businesses, and communities across Montana and Idaho.  

Founded in 1954 as a cooperative to bring voice services to rural areas near Missoula, Blackfoot has grown tremendously while staying true to its mission of keeping communities connected. Today, Blackfoot delivers state-of-the-art fiber-based broadband, managed services, and innovative technology solutions to homes, small and large businesses, and entire communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.  

Jason Williams, CEO of Blackfoot, shared his pride in this milestone, stating, “For 70 years, Blackfoot has been at the heart of bridging the digital divide while fostering connections that drive economic development and innovation in the region. This proclamation is significant recognition of our commitment to advancing technology and serving our communities.”

Joe Thiessen, Lead Combination Technician and a 36-year Blackfoot veteran, reflected on the company’s evolution, saying, “When I started, we were focused on delivering phone services to rural families. Seeing how we’ve expanded into modern broadband and managed services is nothing short of remarkable.”  

Laura Maedche, Customer Operations Manager with 22 years at Blackfoot, added, “What makes Blackfoot special is our commitment to not just connecting people, but also to building relationships. Every day, I see how powerful our technology is in improving lives, and that drives everything we do.”

The proclamation of “Blackfoot Communications Day” was formally announced during a Missoula City Council meeting on Monday, December 9, and is being celebrated on Thursday, December 12.
