The New Missoula Public Library: Connecting People and Sharing Resources

Blackfoot is proud to partner on the historic project .

Blackfoot Communications is proud to announce their support for the new Missoula Public Library, currently under construction and slated to open in 2020.

Blackfoot committed early and has been a significant and engaged partner in the Capital Campaign, endorsing the library’s forward-thinking expansion and contemporary design, including the ways the building will highlight Missoula’s nexus of rivers, mountains, and sky.

“As a cooperative, Blackfoot, led by its Board of Trustees, is deeply committed to the communities we serve. Public libraries are the beating hearts of our communities, connecting individuals in the common pursuits of lifelong learning, public engagement, and civic values. In giving back, we look ahead. Our commitment to the new Missoula Public Library project is an investment in the community’s quality of life, future stability, and progress.”

Jason Williams, Blackfoot Communications CEO

Thanks to Blackfoot and the Library’s internal tech team, the new facility will have the technology infrastructure in place to meet the changing needs of library patrons.

The Blackfoot Room, a board room for the community’s use on Level Four, is named in recognition of Blackfoot Communications’ gift to the new Library’s capital campaign. An architectural feature in the building’s core staircase is also made possible by Blackfoot Communications.

Missoula Public Library (MPL) is a model for connecting people and sharing resources. With six branches, including a mobile branch, MPL maintains a countywide presence and strategic outreach to traditionally underserved populations. As a regional hub, MPL is a leader in a statewide lending network that puts information in the hands of people where and when they are needed the most.

After a decade of planning, two years of construction, pandemic-induced slow-downs, and an outpouring of community support, Missoula’s 21st century public library is slated to open in late summer 2020.
